Commodity chemicals are widely used across oil and gas operations due to their versatility, cost-effectiveness, and essential role in maintaining process efficiency. Unlike specialty chemicals, they are generally produced in bulk and applied in multiple applications, ranging from drilling and production to processing and water treatment. Key commodity chemicals include:

Di Glycol Amine (DGA)

DGA is a widely used amine solvent in gas treating processes, particularly for removing acidic gases such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) from natural gas streams. It has excellent thermal stability, high acid-gas absorption capacity, and is less corrosive compared to some other amines.

Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG)

MEG is primarily used for hydrate inhibition in natural gas production and transportation. It prevents the formation of gas hydrates in pipelines operating at high pressures and low temperatures. Additionally, MEG can serve as a dehydration agent and is recyclable, making it cost-effective for large-scale operations.

Tri Ethylene Glycol (TEG)

TEG is the most common glycol used in natural gas dehydration. Its high boiling point and affinity for water make it ideal for removing water vapor from natural gas streams, thereby preventing pipeline corrosion, hydrate formation, and ensuring compliance with gas quality specifications.

Sodium Hypochlorite

Sodium hypochlorite is used in water treatment processes for its disinfectant and oxidizing properties. It effectively controls bacterial growth, biofouling, and organic contamination in water systems associated with downstream processing plants. Its use ensures the protection of heat exchangers, cooling towers, and other critical equipment.
